Even though people all over have cell phones, it isnt socially acceptable to use them in most public places. You will find more and more references to this out there. For example many doctors offices and restaurants have a message posted to not use a cell phone in their facility. When you go to the theatre to watch a movie you will also see a reminder to turn off your cell phone before the feature begins.
Some people dont take these polite reminders too well though. They have the attitude that it is their right to call people or to text them when and where they please. If that is your attitude dont be surprised to find other people telling you about it. More people are speaking up against it then ever before. There have been some heated conflicts though due to this type of behavior.
There are laws in place in some areas too that restrict you using your cell phone while driving. This is due to the high number of accidents where talking on a cell phone or texting have been involved. Make sure you know the laws in your area as well as when you travel. You dont want to get pulled over and have a huge fine to pay for breaking the law.
Some people think nothing of being on personal calls or texting while they are at work either. This has become a sore spot with many employers so make sure you know what the policies are. Most dont mind if you have your cell phone for emergencies but when it becomes a habit that you are using it while on the clock they arent going to be very happy with it.
Before you use your cell phone in a public place, think about how it will affect the people around you. Stepping outside to take a call or to return a call is a very simple courteousy that can go a very long way. It is a good habit to turn your cell phone off or to the vibrate mode when you in a public place too. That way it doesnt accidentally go off and bother anyone.
Due to so many people making poor judgment calls in this area though, policies and laws are now in place. Not everyone is happy with them but I think we all have to agree that it makes it easier to enjoy going to a public place. No one wants to have the suspense of a great movie ruined due to someone making a call or receiving one during it. By keeping in mind how your actions will affect those around you, the right choice will be easier to make.
